How to Capture Each View
1. Lateral (Side)
- 2–3 m away, perpendicular
- Landscape orientation
- Full body: poll to hooves
- Level ground, standing square
- All 4 legs visible
- Take 2–3 shots
2. Frontal (Head-On)
- Directly in front, centred
- Both shoulders visible
- Front legs + chest + hooves
- Animal looking straight ahead
3. Rear View
- Directly behind, centred on tail
- Both hips + hind legs visible
- Include hooves
- Bulls: scrotum visible
- Cows: udder/vulva visible
4. Face / Muzzle
- Within 1 m of face
- Focus on muzzle/nose texture
- Include eyes, ears, tags
- Portrait orientation
- 5–10 sec video is ideal

Poor Balance
Height at withers vs body length should be roughly equal (1:1). Animal looks "too tall" or "too long".
B6
Pony Type
Noticeably shorter/smaller than herd mates of same age. Undersized frame.
B7
Big / Late Matured
Noticeably taller/longer than expected for age. Lanky, angular, unfinished look.
B8
Coarsely Boned
Thick, heavy cannon bones and joints. Legs look disproportionately heavy for the body.
B9
Fine Boned
Thin, spindly cannon bones. "Matchstick legs." Animal looks fragile.
Golden Rules
- ✓ Level ground — slopes ruin proportions
- ✓ Good light — overcast is best, no harsh shadows
- ✓ Full body in frame — don't crop the head or hooves
- ✓ Animal standing still and square — no walking, no crossed legs
- ✓ Landscape for body, portrait for face
- ✓ Take more than you need — 2–3 shots per view minimum
